    Working with Dragons

    How to Approach

The Draconic Path is a vigorous one, long and winding, and one you go down when you establish the desire to work with dragons. A label commonly used to refer to refer to the nature of ones spiritual direction when working with dragons, it's a bit unclear where exactly the term itself was coined, but has been used more and more within the past decade or two. There is no formal initiation behind such a thing, simply working with dragons within your spiriutal practice. So if you are a new practicioner, I welcome you dear reader down this wretched road! Welcome to the Draconic Path. What's next?

After making connection with a dragon, the natural answer for many beginners is just that. Ultimately, the answer to that question lies within yourself, and it is important you ask yourself what it is you're looking for in working with dragons. Do you seek aid in spellwork? And if so, what kind? The kind of assistance you seek in magickal endeavors is relevant and important when considering the types of dragons you work with, as some may be better in certain areas than others. Do you wish to find yourself, or explore greater distances such as the astral? Dragons can be excellent guides in such matters. Or do you simply wish to have a relationship with them through worship and connection? All of these are valid answers! The only wrong answers would be those of selfish intentions, and those of dishonest nature. Spend a good amount of time trying to determine deep down what it is you want. It will help you in the long run.

There are many ways to work with dragons, and the ways they can impact your life are pretty endless. They can protect you, act as friends, aid your spellwork, help you discover deeper aspects of yourself, help recover from trauma, teach you many grand lessons, and overall help you improve as a general human being by their side. Dragons are incredible companions and even greater teachers! But of course, no matter what it is you are looking for it is important to never make any demands of a dragon, or act as if you have control over them. They are partners, not tools, and by all means they demand a great deal of respect.

Understanding who exactly you're working with is an important part of collaborating with dragons. So whatever it is you're working with them for, you would be wise to try and get to know them! The elemental qualities of a dragon can be very significant to your goal. For example, a Venus dragon could help susbstantially in any love related work! Water dragons are typically exceptional at helping you in emotional or mental matters, and earth dragons with grounding and money related ordeals. The possibilities are endless, and though no dragon is ever limited by their primary elemental allignment ( especially because dragons can typically work with all elements ), seeking the aid of one who specializes in what you seek is generally practical. Keep in mind some dragons may refuse to assist you in certain endeavors for whatever reason, but if they do don't take it personally! Respect their wishes and do not make demands of them.

Another important part of getting to know those you work with is understanding your relationship with them. Are you working with a personal guide? A god? Or did you call upon a dragon, and are you strangers with them, or did they seek you out themselves? Often times if it is not a guide you are close with, it is generally wise to show a great deal of respect, behave in a more "professional" manner ( though take that loosely, as dragons are not people, and obviously we have differnet standards of customs for that ), offer many thanks and offerings, and make sure you do not cross any boundaries. But do not be afraid either, and feel free to remain confident! Dragons admire bravery after all. Offerings as a whole are pretty standard to give to any dragon you work with, close or not, as a means of showing gratitude and providing something on their end to benefit from as well. Offerings can range a number of things, from physical objects such as crystals or food, to devotional actions such as cleaning nearby areas or singing, or even simple things such as your very energy and time. It's up to you, really! Further in this guide there are more detailed recommendations of offerings to specific dragon types.

In the end, while the in's-and-out's of how you may work with dragons is ultimately a personal and self determined matter, probably the most important aspect of all of this comes down to communication. Communicating with those you work is critical to success and respect, and making it clear what your intentions are and what you seek! Such affairs will be addressed in the next section.
